Nevada's breach notice rule

Nevada handles breach notice in NRS chapter 603A, Security and Privacy of Personal Information, with the definition in 603A.040 and the duty in 603A.220.

A data collector shall disclose any breach following discovery or notification to any resident whose unencrypted personal information was, or is reasonably believed to have been, acquired by an unauthorized person. The disclosure must be made in the most expedient time possible and without unreasonable delay, consistent with the legitimate needs of law enforcement.

Two features of the Nevada text stand out. The chapter as served contains no notice to the Attorney General or to any other regulator. It also contains no risk-of-harm exception, so the duty turns on acquisition of unencrypted information rather than on a judgment about likely harm.

Credit reporting agencies

The only other recipient the section names is the consumer reporting agency. If a data collector determines that notice must go to more than 1,000 persons at any one time, it shall also notify, without unreasonable delay, any consumer reporting agency. A business preparing for a large Nevada incident should plan that second mailing alongside the first.

Our Nevada breach notification page sets out the data elements and the rule in full, and says which text we checked. This is general information, not legal advice.

What a ShareAndGo room gives a Nevada team

Reconstructing exposure starts with knowing who had a file open.

For documents you share through ShareAndGo, the activity log records every view and download, and watermarked view-only pages carry the reader's email address and the date.

Each data room carries a watermark setting that is on by default. Groups see only their folders, and recipients confirm their email with a six-digit code before reading, with no account to create. Because the log is chained and exports as CSV, a Nevada team can hand the reviewer a clean list of views and downloads inside ShareAndGo.

The courts and regulators behind Nevada paperwork

Federal cases from Nevada are heard in the U.S. District Court for the District of Nevada. CPAs practicing in Nevada are licensed by the Nevada State Board of Accountancy.
